For some, a great weekend away from it all includes one thing and one thing only: shopping. Sound familiar? If so, it’s time to take a drive to a little hidden gem you may or may not already be familiar with: Winnipeg. From specialty boutique shops to big box stores to an incredible, brand new outlet mall, Winnipeg is an urban oasis for those craving a taste of big-city living – and it’s within driving distance too! Here are just a few of our stores and malls you need to visit on your next shopping expedition to Winnipeg…
As Winnipeg’s newest shopping destination, the Outlet Collection has garnered quite a bit of attention- and for good reason! This is Winnipeg’s first outlet mall, complete with higher-end brands like Michael Kors and Saks off Fifth, as well as Forever 21’s new RED line and DSW Warehouse. This gorgeous outlet mall also features a brand new food court (seriously, don’t miss the food court) with tons to choose from. We recommend Big Smoke Burger and Chachi’s!
The Outlet Collection is situated in an ideal shopping location on Kenaston Blvd, close to other popular retailers like HomeSense, Urban Barn and Tommy Hilfiger, and yes, our very own IKEA!
Malls, malls, malls
CF Polo Park
CF Polo Park is our largest mall, so give yourself plenty of time to shop the two-storey plaza with popular stores like Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Coach, Saje, Aldo, Club Monaco and much, much more.
St. Vital Centre
If you find yourself in the lovely south side of the city, St. Vital Centre is the place to go to satiate that ever-present shopping itch. Wander through the ever-cozy Chapters book store before finding some new digs at stores like Le Chateau, Browns Shoes and RW & Co.
Kildonan Place Mall
Regent Avenue is another great street to shop along, with the newly expanded Kildonan Place Mall (now with HomeSense and Marshalls) and nearby retailers like Michaels and Winners.
Prefer to shop at local boutiques? The Exchange District is one of the best areas in the city to find one-of-a-kind products and clothing (and it’s great for dining, too). Imagine walking through North America’s largest and best preserved collection of heritage buildings in search of the perfect, totally unique find. Shop stunning and luxurious jewelry at Hillary Druxman before browsing gorgeous attire at Lennard Taylor Design Studio or Kit and Ace. For handmade goodies, look no further than A Pinch of Creativity or Tara Davis Studio Boutique, while chic furnishings can be found at Hoopers or HUT K. And don’t leave before checking out the adorable paper products and home decor items of Tiny Feast!
Voted one of the best neighbourhoods in Canada, Osborne Village is always bustling with fantastic energy – whether it be for the food, the bars, or the shops along the main strip. Plan to spend a few hours in this area, browsing trendy clothing and accessory shops like Style Bar, Rooster Shoes, Out of the Blue, tharNzie and more.
While the destination district of Corydon Avenue is more known for its various coffee shops and restaurants (it’s not called Little Italy for nothing), it is also home to quite a few boutique stores like Peepers Swimwear, October Boutique, Uomo Casuale and Loka Boutique.
The River Heights neighbourhood is gorgeous to drive through in any season, especially because Academy Road happens to be a hot spot for boutique shopping. Browse the popular Mad About Style Boutique before shopping for yummy gifts of the macaron and dainty variety at Jenna Rae Cakes. Other stores you can’t miss include Margot & Maude and Grace & Company.
