Okay, maybe it's always burger season here. But it's that time again for road trips, summer drive-ins and all the delicious grilled patties and fat boys you could dream of. From Elgin to The Pas to Dauphin, these burger joints offer a delicious detour from the ordinary. Let's make this spring and summer one to remember, one burger at a time!

Be sure to check operating hours ahead of visiting as seasonal opening days will vary!

The Burning Bale

Elgin

The Burning Bale might just be one of Western Manitoba's best kept secrets...until now! Located south of Souris in the town of Elgin, The Burning Bale offers a number of exciting daily specials in addition to a permanent (but often changing) menu. Try the cast iron burger to get a taste of Chef Germain’s hillbilly sauce, made with a blend of smoked japaleno tomato sauce, mayo and de-alcoholized moonshine and Everclear. Talk about unique!

While in the area: Summer water adventures are just a hop and a skip from Elgin. Head north to Oak Lake, east to Pelican Lake or south to Turtle Mountain Provincial Park and Lake Metigoshe.

Winnipeg Beach

What's better than burgers on the beach? Award-winning burgers on the beach! As the recipients of several accolades including Burger Week Champions, Carlo's Cucina is the perfect place to grab grub during your next trip to Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park. For those who prefer their burgers meatless, they also offer some delicious vegetarian options!

While in the area: Spend the day at Winnipeg Beach, of course! There's a lovely board walk, a dog beach and plenty of sand to sink your toes into.

La Roque

Where can you get the tallest burgers in Manitoba? La Roque Dining! This small town gem draws in visitors from all over the province for its mouth-watering creations. There are over 20 burgers (beef and chicken) to choose from. If you dare, challenge yourself to the towering "Ricky Burger", "Double Stacker", "Whiskey Stacker" or "Raving Loon".

While in the area: Walk along Cliff Street for sweeping views of the Souris River valley, before heading to the town of Souris to see the longest swinging bridge in Canada.

Corrina's on Main

Dauphin

Frequently cited as having the best burgers in the Parkland, Corrina's is a must-try while in Dauphin. Just check out the Dirty 30 Burger: "An all-in attitude is required for this biggie, whether hungry or hangry, this one will satisfy any burger enthusiast! 4 patties, piled with bacon, back bacon, cheddar, mozza and swiss cheese, onions rings, dressed with 40 creek whisky bbq sauce & mayo." YUM!

While in the area: Cycle on the Northgate Trail System or explore downtown Dauphin

Vickie's Snack Bar

Beausejour

Home to a number of provincial parks, Eastern Manitoba is a haven for gorgeous lakes and landscapes. If you're heading east this summer, do yourself a favour and stop into the town of Beausejour for a bite. Vickie's Snack Bar is the perfect choice for juicy burgers (the mozzarella bacon burger comes highly recommended), as well as milkshakes and 'volcano' poutine!

While in the area: Browse the historic buildings of the Pioneer Village Museum and stop to smell the flowers at the Daylily Gardens. Then, continue onward to Whiteshell Provincial Park!

The Dutch Drive In

In the northern city of The Pas, The Dutch Drive In has been the go-to summer destination for over 60 years. Open seasonally, this old school eatery provides car-hop service for its delectable cheeseburgers, milkshakes and hand-cut 'dutch' fries.

While in the area: Be dazzled by Clearwater Lake Provincial Park and Wekusko Falls Provincial Park.

Duke's Burger Company

Niverville and Various Locations

If trying a smash burger is on your list this summer, be sure to follow along with Duke's Burger Company! This food truck moves throughout the province to various events but can be frequently found at its home location just outside of Niverville at 2300 Provincial Trunk Highway 59.

While in the area: Visit a flower farm or head to A Maze in Corn in nearby Saint Adolphe.

Twisters

Winkler

You'll feel like you've gone back in time as you enter this 50s style diner in Winkler, Manitoba! Grab a milkshake and a burger and enjoy in one of the classic red vinyl seats found within Twisters. The menu also offers gluten-free and vegetarian options!

While in the area: Explore all there is to do in Morden and Winkler, including the Pembina Threshermen's Museum and the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre.

The Farmers Daughter in the Kelwood Barn

This hidden gem in the Parkland will surprise you with its adorable farmhouse interior and its amazing restaurant. The Farmers Daughter is all about home cooking and the burger is no exception - even the bun is handmade! While there, shop a variety of local goodies from The MTN General Store.

While in the area: Continue onto Riding Mountain National Park for a bounty of outdoor adventure and fun.

The Spicy Radish

The Spicy Radish is out to prove how amazing small town dining can really be. With their regular menu and their specials, this is a great stop for just about anyone - burger connoisseurs included! The Spicy Radish also participates in the annual Winnipeg River Burger Trail (2024 dates TBA)!

While in the area: Explore Whitemouth Falls Provincial Park or stay the night at Moon Gate Guest House or Wild Skies Resort

Dari Isle Drive-In

Minnedosa

With a history dating back to 1965, Dari Isle Drive-In recently underwent a pretty incredible makeover. So while you can now expect a much cooler and updated interior (featuring neon signs!) the great drive-in food remains the same. The secret is all in their SMASH sauce!

While in the area: Wander through the Minnedosa District Museum & Heritage Village and have a blast at Splish Splash Water Park.

Kahleigh’s Brew Barn

Riverton

Kahleigh's Brew Barn is becoming a staple of the Interlake, known most of all for its famous 'dirty fries'. But that doesn't mean they don't serve up a mean burger as well! Choose from options like the onion ring cheeseburger, the pineapple BBQ bacon burger or take a challenge with the sky-high Scooby sandwich.

While in the area: Snap a picture with the moose statue, walk the Icelandic River Trail or head further north to Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park.


Moment in Thyme Grill

Morden

Fun fact: This small town eatery is in fact run by former chef of the Winnipeg Jets, Alex Kanski. Moment in Thyme Grill is another fantastic choice if you're craving a smash burger made with the freshest ingredients.

While in the area: Explore all there is to do in Morden and Winkler, including a beach day and a splash at Lake Minnewasta.

If you're looking for some of the biggest and best burgers in Manitoba, Big Al's is the place. After Big Al passed away earlier this year, his family decided to continue his legacy through the eatery and continues to welcome any and all who pass through this small town in Central Manitoba.

While in the area: Drive the rolling hills for scenic views, grab a photo in front of the windmill in Holland and check out the community waterpark in Treherne.
