An oratorio of triumph and joy. It was born out of Handel’s struggle to stay at the forefront of 18th century England’s taste for opera. Running short on money, he had no choice but to go the oratorio route, where Handel found enduring success. Messiah is a masterpiece with drama to spare in every page of its score. It feels as fresh today as it did when first premiered in Dublin in 1742. This performance features the debut of the new WSO Chorus and an all-Manitoban cast of soloists.
