Experience life as a fur trader in the Spruce Woods winter!

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Location: Yellow Quill Trailhead
Join John MacDonnell, fur trader with the North West Company, on this 2 km trek through the woods with komatiks (traditional sleds) to meet with the Free Traders at their wintering cabin to exchange stories, supplies, goods and furs. Enjoy homemade bannock and wild tea. Watch out for rival HBC traders! We’ll provide the snowshoes, or bring your own. Registration not required.

Location: Park Centre
19th Century Sewing Workshop (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM): Try your hand at 19th century sewing techniques with textile artist Claire Sparling. We will provide your own personal sewing kit, or housewife, to make your own creation. Space is limited - register by calling 204-827-8850 and leave your contact information.
Free Trader Open Camp (12:00 PM - 4:00 PM): Drop by the Free Trader’s winter camp to enjoy some hot beverages and make bannock, check out their display of tools, furs and arms collections. Be prepared to hear some loud booms as they shoot off their muskets and blow the cannons! Registration not required.
