The Nature Conservancy of Canada's Manitoba Region began with its first property acquisition in the Tall Grass Prairie in 1992. Today, the Manitoba Region has a well-developed and integrated approach to conservation in eight natural areas within the province. This approach is based on regional activities focused on conservation science, land stewardship and securement supported by outreach and education programs. These regional activities have resulted in the conservation and protection of almost 60,000 acres (24,300 hectares) of important habitat and areas critical to Manitoba's biodiversity. Through the generous donations of Manitobans and our partners, we have been able to make significant progress in Manitoba's natural areas. These areas provide important habitat for thousands of species of plants and animals, many of which are endangered or at risk. It is our goal to ensure that these special areas, plants and animals continue to be there for generations to come and ensure that Manitoba is itself a special place.
