Just down the hall from Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company in The Forks Market, you will find our sister company – Grass Roots Prairie Kitchen. It’s a cozy spot filled with bubbling soup pots, steaming roasters and wooden spoons. It is here the Tall Grass commitment to whole food continues.
Farmers from across the provinces deliver baskets of fresh produce and inspiration throughout the year. This is the starting point for our cooks and prep staff, who on a daily basis create delicious local foods, made from scratch.
In our fridges and freezers, you will find a good selection of vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes to heat and eat at home. Choices change on a rotating basis and with the seasons, and also embrace special holiday favourites. Examples of heat and eat at home meal selections include Chickpea potato stew, Bison or Vegetarian chilli, as well as Shepherd’s pie, made with local organic bison. We even have perogies.
Home-style soups (such as Beet borscht, Hungarian mushroom, Split pea, Roasted red pepper turkey) and salads (Black bean & quinoa, Citrus wild rice, Classic bean or Tamari orzo) add spark to lunches and suppers.
Grass Roots shelves are lined with canning. Find time-honoured and new recipes, all lovingly made. There’s homestyle dills, pickled beets, bread and butter pickles, as well as curried pumpkin eggplant. Or try our salsas - mild, medium, hot, rhubarb apple chutney, and tomato sauce. And satisfy your sweet tooth with Apple & wild cranberry jelly, strawberry, or even chokecherry jams.
