Skiing & Snowboarding

Take a powder at one of the province's fully groomed resorts, where you'll find the hills are alive with skiers and snowboarders of all ages.

Sail across blankets of sparkling white drifts, breathe deep of the winter air and revel in the magic of a landscape renewed. At the end of the day, curl up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa or relax in the comfort of a cozy cottage or chalet.

Catch a lift at Holiday Mountain in La Riviere, a destination of choice since 1959. Ride the rails at the freestyle terrain park for snowboarders or take your pick from 11 downhill runs. Stay at an A-frame cabin with ski-in access and try the newly installed zip lines - the longest and fastest in Manitoba.

Stony Mountain Ski Area near Winnipeg is snowboarder central, priding itself on being the first to open and the last to close each winter. Shred some powder in the terrain park, or carve a path down one of six runs. Also just outside Winnipeg, Springhill Winter Sports Park maintains 10 runs for boarders and skiers. Paths are groomed daily, there's night skiing for insomniacs, and the park plays host to snowboard and freestyle ski contests throughout the season.

If it's sheer size you're after, try the province's largest resort - Asessippi Ski Area, which recently debuted a newly expanded snow tubing park and 650-foot magic carpet. The resort boasts 25 runs - some as long as 700 metres -plus two freestyle terrain parks, three aerial lifts and a bustling winter village.

Rustic charm gets a jolt of adrenaline at the Falcon Ridge Ski Hill in the Whiteshell, where the pine-scented surroundings make for picturesque views. After a day on the slopes, guests can spend the night at an eco-cabin with a roaring bonfire. And just north of Thompson lies Mystery Mountain, where you can choose from 18 runs ranging from beginner slopes to steep mogul fields, plus a 300-foot half pipe to challenge boarders of all skill levels.
