How to Spend 48 Hours in Brandon, Manitoba

Posted: June 05, 2026 | Author: Anna Schaible-Schur | Estimated Read Time: 7 minutes

Known as the Wheat City, Brandon is a Manitoba getaway shaped by prairie landscapes, warm hospitality, local food and easy access to outdoor adventure. Over one spring weekend, this 48-hour itinerary made room for the Assiniboine River corridor, historic downtown, Brandon Hills, local makers, wellness experiences and delicious meals worth planning around.

Key Things to Know About a Brandon Weekend

  • Brandon is located on Treaty 2 Territory and is known as the Wheat City because of its agricultural roots.
  • The city works well for a two-night getaway, with nature, food, wellness, shopping and entertainment close together.
  • Start at the Riverbank Discovery Centre for trails, gear rentals, visitor information and easy access to Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park.
  • Check the Keystone Centre event calendar before booking your trip. Major markets, expos and sports events can shape your itinerary.
  • Book accommodations and spa treatments in advance, especially around popular events.

Why Visit Manitoba’s Wheat City?

Brandon’s Wheat City nickname is rooted in its agricultural history. The city grew along the Assiniboine River and became an important prairie hub for trade, settlement and agriculture. You still see that identity today in the events at the Keystone Centre, the surrounding farmland and the way the community gathers around local business, sport, arts and culture.

Brandon is also home to The Hub, its historic downtown centered around Rosser Avenue and 10th Street. Heritage buildings, murals, cafés, restaurants and independent businesses make this area one of the easiest places to spend an afternoon on foot.

In 48 hours, Brandon offers enough variety to keep a weekend full without feeling rushed. You can hike in the morning, browse a market by midday, book a spa treatment in the afternoon and settle into a local restaurant or brewery by evening.

What Should You Explore Outdoors in Brandon?

Riverbank Discovery Centre

A visit to the Riverbank Discovery Centre is a natural starting point for a Brandon itinerary.

Set along the Assiniboine River corridor, the centre connects visitors with more than 17 kilometres of trails, riverbank views and opportunities to learn about the local ecosystem. Inside, browse interpretive displays, ask about seasonal gear rentals and gather ideas for the rest of your stay. Outside, follow trails through marsh, prairie grass and riverside landscapes.

This stop is especially good for families, photographers, walkers and anyone who wants an easy way to connect with Brandon’s natural side without leaving the city.

Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park

The Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Park sits right beside the Riverbank Discovery Centre, so there is no need to plan a separate drive. You will see the sculptures as you arrive, then you can follow the paved path to explore them up close.

The sculptures feature a range of Canadian wildlife. The bear was my favourite. It feels strong, watchful and full of character, making it a memorable stop along the path. The park adds an artful pause to a nature-focused visit and is an easy add-on before or after exploring the riverbank trails.

Brandon Hills Wildlife Management Area

For a deeper trail experience, head south of the city to Brandon Hills Wildlife Management Area.

This area is known for rolling hills, aspen and oak forests, prairie grasses and wetlands. Trails range in length and terrain, which makes the area a strong choice for hikers, mountain bikers, dog walkers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers and birdwatchers depending on the season.

For a spring visit, give yourself time to slow down and enjoy the shifting landscape. The area feels removed enough to offer a quiet nature break, yet close enough to fit easily into a weekend Brandon itinerary.

The Hub Mural Tour

Back downtown, Brandon’s self-guided mural tour adds colour and character to The Hub.

The Blue Hills mural stood out as a favourite during this trip. Its recognizable design and sense of place make it one of the pieces that often appears on social media. Pair the mural walk with coffee, lunch or a bit of shopping and you have a relaxed way to experience Brandon’s historic core.

Where Should You Eat in Brandon?

One of the best parts of a Brandon weekend is how much flavour you can fit into two days. The city’s food scene brings together family-run favourites, global cuisines, welcoming cafés and craft beer.

Sabor Latino

Sabor Latino is a great stop for fresh Latin cuisine. The dishes are colourful, generous and full of flavour. For us, it was a strong lunch option before an afternoon of exploring.

Chilli Chutney

Chilli Chutney’s buffet was ideal because we could try a range of Indian dishes in one visit. It is a good choice for travellers who like variety and want a meal that feels both comforting and filling.

The Dock on Princess

The Dock on Princess offers a pub atmosphere that made us want to linger. With a billiards table, a classic bar setting and a menu with local ingredients, it works well for a casual dinner downtown.

Chez Angela Bakery & Café

Chez Angela Bakery & Café is a Brandon favourite for a reason. Stop in for brunch, baked goods or a coffee. With pastries and light fare, it’s clear to see why visitors keep adding it to their itineraries.

H Coffee

H Coffee is a cozy recharge stop between activities. Add it to your breakfast plans or use it as a midday break before heading to your next attraction.

Black Wheat Brewing Co.

Black Wheat Brewing Co. adds local craft beer to the itinerary, along with a window into the brewing facility that lets visitors see part of the process behind the glass.

For those with more time, Section 6 Brewing Co. is another Brandon brewery to keep on your list for a return trip.

What Indoor Experiences Should You Try in Brandon?

Apple & Pine Market at the Keystone Centre

Brandon’s Keystone Centre hosts a rotating calendar of events, so it is worth checking what is happening during your visit.

Our trip lined up with the spring Apple & Pine Market, which brought more than 100 Manitoba makers together under one roof. The market featured handmade goods, artisan products, gifts, décor and food items. It was a great place to shop for loved ones, discover prairie talent and support local makers.

A bouquet of flowers ended up being the take-home find of the day, along with a reminder that timing your trip around a Brandon event can add something special to the weekend.

The Hills Spa

The Hills Spa is a relaxing addition to a busy Brandon itinerary.

We booked custom head spa treatments, which offered a slower, more restorative moment after a morning at the market. The spa also has a sauna for after your treatment, so leave extra time to enjoy the full experience instead of rushing to the next stop.

This is a strong option for couples, friends, solo travellers or anyone who wants to build a little self-care into a Manitoba getaway.

T-Birds Arcade

T-Birds Arcade is a fun evening stop for friendly competition. It is casual, playful and convenient to add after dinner.

Arcade games are also a good reminder that not every itinerary needs to be packed with major attractions. Sometimes the lighter moments are the ones that round out a trip.

Where Should You Stay in Brandon?

Brandon has a range of accommodation options, including hotels, motels and unique short-term rentals.

For this trip, a riverside Airbnb rental overlooking the Assiniboine River added a quieter rhythm to the weekend. Between outings, there was time for cooking, storytelling, a fire, crib games and watching deer pass by the river.

A good place to stay can become part of the trip itself. In Brandon, that might mean a hotel close to a major event, a downtown base near restaurants or a peaceful stay with river views.
