The African Movie Festival in Manitoba (AM-FM) proudly launches its 9th annual edition from September 14–20, 2026, celebrating African and diasporic cinema with a renewed vision, a growing community, and a slate of powerful new films.

Now recognized as Manitoba’s premiere African film festival, AM-FM 2026 continues to expands its cultural footprint with screenings across four major venues: Winnipeg Art Gallery – Qaumajuq, University of Manitoba, Université de Saint-Boniface, and University of Winnipeg. The festival features over 20 films from Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe, and the U.S., alongside filmmaker Q&As, cultural programming, and live discussions that spotlight voices often left out of mainstream film circuits.

“What began as a modest dream to create a space for African and diasporic stories on the Prairies has grown into a vibrant platform that brings together filmmakers, students, scholars, and audiences from across Manitoba and beyond,” said Ben Akoh, Founder and Festival Director. “Each year, AM-FM affirms that cinema is not only entertainment but also a bridge between continents, between cultures, and between generations.”
