Shot in a dynamic, hand-held style, the 44-minute documentary film Meeting a Moment – the Art of Social Architecture invites architects, historians, social housing advocates and citizens to reflect on the creation of affordable housing in Winnipeg and why it is about more than simply architecture and design.

Beginning with a look back at the concept for an innovative, large-scale affordable rental housing development designed by the architecture firm Green, Blankstein, Russell in the midst of the Great Depression, to Willow Park Housing Co-operative—Canada’s first permanent housing co-op for families—to the present day revisioning of the iconic Hudson’s Bay Company building as Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn, the film challenges our collective social conscience on what it takes to truly create a home and a community.

The film is written and directed by Danielle Sturk, a multidisciplinary artist known for her emotionally resonant, visually striking work.
