Ste. Thérèse Chapel

This beautiful chapel is a picturesque representation of Gothic and Romanesque architecture built from 1927 to 1929 by local residents in the tiny village of Cardinal, in the Municipality of Lorne. It was sadly abandoned in 1960 and taken over by pigeons until 1989, before undergoing extensive restoration work to enable it to be used again for various gatherings.

Today, the chapel is a museum featuring various interpretive panels, images, archival documents, and artifacts that provide insight into the history of the chapel and the village itself. Visitors can learn, for example, that at the beginning of her career in 1929 and 1930, Gabrielle Roy taught the children of Cardinal in the village's first school.

Visitors are welcomed daily in July and August and by appointment in May, June and September. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
