One of Winnipeg's natural wonders, the Living Prairie Museum is home to 12 ha of remnant tall grass prairie. Less than 1% of tall grass prairie remains in North America, making it one of the most endangered habitats in the world. The Living Prairie Museum is home to grassland birds, mammals, prairie insects, and a diverse assemblage of historically, culturally, and ecologically significant plant life.

Visit our interpretive centre to learn more about this unique landmark. Displays tell the story of settlement, habitat loss, and conservation. The Prairie Bookstore offers relevant titles from field guides to historical accounts. Native prairie seeds are also available for purchase. The centre is open seasonally and for special events. Public hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Sundays: May, June, and September; open daily in July and August.

Our hiking trails allow guests to immerse themselves in prairie vegetation and wildlife. The self-guiding trail is accessible from dawn to dusk, and guided hikes are available by registration.

Summer: Thursday Theme Days, Monarch Butterfly Festival, public guided hikes
Fall: Volunteer seed collecting
Winter: Winter Speaker Series, Snowshoe Sundays
