Harness Adventure Mushing Co. is an authentic dog sledding experience, combining nature and thrills.

About 30 minutes east of Winnipeg, Harness Adventure Mushing Co. offers much more than just a winter activity. In Richer, this dog sledding experience, available in French, invites you to slow down, connect with nature and discover a tradition deeply rooted in Canadian history. Whether it's a family outing, a couple's getaway or a moment shared with loved ones, this experience takes place in a nature-based and welcoming setting, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

An authentic and warm welcome

Upon arrival, the atmosphere is relaxed. We take the time to chat, get ready and, most importantly, meet the dogs. There, nothing is done in a hurry. The goal is clear: to make everyone feel comfortable before heading out on the trails.

The Siberian huskies quickly attract attention. Some are calm, others very enthusiastic but all are curious and used to human contact. You can approach them, pet them and get to know their personalities. For children, this is often one of the highlights of the visit.

At Harness Adventure Mushing Co., the dogs' well-being is a priority. Responsible breeding, socialization, regular training and appropriate care are part of the daily routine. The dogs are fit, confident and happy to work together, which makes the experience even more reassuring, especially for families.

History, traditions and anecdotes

Before departure, owner Marc-André Belcourt takes the time to explain how the dog sled works. He talks about his daily life as a musher, the history of this practice in Canada and how a team is organized. The conversation flows naturally in French and in a vocabulary suitable for both children and adults.

One moment that is often a hit is the little game around the dogs' names. Several of them are named after historical Canadian figures. It's fun to guess who is who, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.

You’ll also learn how the harnesses work, why they are important for the dogs' comfort and how each one has a specific role in the team. Little by little, you’ll come to understand that dog sledding is based on cooperation, both between the dogs and with the mushers.

An immersive journey in the heart of nature

Among the activities on offer, the “Vas-Vite” experience (“Go fast”) allows you to discover dogsledding in a friendly way. It is a private group experience, promoting a more personalized approach, which is particularly suitable for a first experience.

The ride, which is approximately three kilometres long, takes place through the Manitoba forest near the property in Richer, Manitoba. Departures are scheduled seven days a week, at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., depending on conditions. For about 20 minutes, the sled glides over the snow, carried by the energy of the dogs and the calm of the landscape.

The atmosphere changes depending on the time of day. At the end of the day, as the light fades, the forest takes on softer hues, increasing the feeling of immersion. Children look around, ask questions and laugh. Adults take the time to appreciate the setting and the sensation of gliding.

After the ride, the experience continues around the fire. The dogs receive their pats and encouragement, while everyone chats and takes a few photos. We all leave with a better understanding of a musher’s work and the bond between the dogs and their team.

Extend the experience with a night of winter glamping

For those who want to experience the Manitoba winter in an even more authentic way, Harness Adventure Mushing Co. also offers a winter glamping experience, separate from the “Vas-vite” activity.

In the evening, you set off on a dog sled and the ride takes you directly to your accommodation, located in the heart of nature. The shelter tent is comfortably furnished with a large bed, a relaxation area and a wood stove.

The next morning, breakfast is delivered on site before heading back to the reception area. It's a way to extend the experience and enjoy the silence of the forest for a night, just a short distance from Winnipeg.
