Summer in Manitoba fills up fast. Long evenings, outdoor stages, lakefront towns and downtown streets come alive with festivals that make the season feel like one big invitation to get out and explore.
These five Manitoba summer festivals are worth adding to your calendar now. Some celebrate theatre and film. Others share food, culture, music and local history. All of them give you a good reason to plan a day trip, a weekend getaway or a longer summer road trip.
Exchange District, Winnipeg
Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival
July 15–26, 2026
The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival brings 12 days of theatre, street performances and summer energy to the Exchange District. In 2026, the festival features more than 140 plays, along with outdoor entertainment and Kids Fringe programming.
If you're visiting with kids or just easing into the festival, spend some time at Old Market Square first. The outdoor programming gives you a feel for Fringe without committing to a ticketed show, and it's a good place to regroup between performances.
Gimli, Manitoba
Gimli International Film Festival
July 22–26, 2026
The Gimli International Film Festival brings Canadian and international films to one of Manitoba’s favourite lakeside towns.
GIFF is known for its beach screenings, where films are shown outdoors near the shore of Lake Winnipeg. Bring a blanket, check the schedule before you go and give yourself time to enjoy Gimli before the screening. The town’s harbour, shops, restaurants and lakefront paths make it easy to turn the festival into a full day or weekend trip.

Icelandic Festival of Manitoba — Íslendingadagurinn
July 31–August 3, 2026
Held every August long weekend, Íslendingadagurinn, the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, celebrates Icelandic culture and heritage in Gimli.
Expect a busy long weekend with cultural programming, food, music, family activities and events along the waterfront. It is one of Manitoba’s most well-known summer festivals and a meaningful way to experience Gimli’s connection to New Iceland.

Pioneer Days at Mennonite Heritage Village

Pioneer Days at Mennonite Heritage Village is a good fit for travellers who enjoy history, heritage and hands-on experiences.
Families can spend the day exploring the village, taking wagon rides, visiting the petting zoo and watching demonstrations throughout the site. It’s a slower-paced summer festival that gives visitors a chance to experience the stories, skills and traditions that shaped Mennonite communities in Manitoba.

Morden Corn & Apple Festival

The Morden Corn & Apple Festival marks the end of summer with one of southern Manitoba’s biggest community celebrations.
