You can go on a dogsledding tour in multiple locations across the province, including tours in southern Manitoba that are just an hour away from Winnipeg (including in St. Malo, East Selkirk or Richer). If you are planning a Churchill adventure, make sure to book a dog sled ride with Wapusk Adventures.
These tours can cost around $100-140 per person (as of October 2026), depending on duration, location and tour program. For example, some tours offer an introductory talk, participating in the mushing, time with the dogs, including helping harness them! Children may be offered a reduced rate. Some tours have a requirement of a two-person minimum per trip.
World Championship Dog Race at the Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival is the biggest dog sled race in the province, running since 1916. The Hudson Bay Quest follows an old trapping route from Gilliam to Churchill and is the longest race in Manitoba, running for approximately 330 kilometres. Manitoban communities of Brochet and Cross Lake also host annual dog sled races at the start of a year.
The best time to go dogsledding in Manitoba is between December and March when the snow cover is thick enough for a smooth ride. During the warmer months between July and October, locations like Churchill offer a dog carting experience.
