Emma Shaw Colcleugh lived on this property in the 1880s and was an adventurer and travel writer. She was the first white woman to explore Canada's subarctic in steamer ship, canoe and horse-drawn cart. She sent dispatches back to American newspapers where her accounts of life in Canada's north was a syndicated column at a time when few women left the kitchen or the farm yard.

"The 5 stars that came before us did not mislead us and the 5 stars we give do not tell a lie. There was nothing we could have asked for, and there was nothing we would have changed. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, beautiful surroundings,” a pair of writers.

"The property is even better in person than the pictures. The wrap around deck has a nice country-type view. We loved learning about Emma's adventures and appreciated all the little touches that paid tribute to the history of the property… we would stay again in a heartbeat," Brandon, Manitoba couple.

"Hook&Tassel is a very quiet sanctuary. A perfect place to reconnect with family and unplug from our everyday routine. We enjoyed watching and listening to birds & squirrels chirping ...deer and a family of skunk in the early evenings. We also spotted bald eagle flying low overhead. Our kids enjoyed running and playing ball on the small hill," family of four.

“My new husband and I loved every second of it and it was the perfect little wedding staycation for us,” new bride.
