Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat

Discover the Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat — A Hidden Gem on the Eastern Shores of Lake Winnipeg
Immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of the Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat, located on the eastern shores of the majestic Lake Winnipeg. Nestled within Pimachiowin Aki, Manitoba’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, our retreat offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore one of the most ecologically and culturally significant landscapes in Canada.
This extraordinary region—named Pimachiowin Aki (pronounced pim-MATCH-o-win-a-KEH), meaning “the land that gives life” and “living the good life on the land”—is celebrated for its ancient boreal forests, diverse wildlife, untouched wilderness, and some of the clearest dark skies in the world, perfect for stargazing and witnessing the aurora borealis.
Established in 2013, our main lodge, Angie’s Place, is a comfortable and inviting cabin featuring an open-concept kitchen, living, and dining area, two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a wraparound deck, a cozy sunroom, and stunning lakefront views. For a more intimate experience, The Lilypad—our charming 200-square-foot tiny cabin—is ideal for couples, friends reconnecting, or solo adventurers seeking peace and quiet. Guests can also enjoy The Lotus, our unique teardrop-style glamping tent designed for stargazing.
Located just under three hours north of Winnipeg, Loon Straits is a secluded yet welcoming destination, with a small local presence that ensures a balance between solitude and connection. To enhance your stay, we offer personalized nature walks, cultural workshops, and kayak and canoe rentals, allowing guests to fully experience the natural and cultural richness of the area.
Come and experience where nature and culture are inseparable—where the land truly gives life.
