Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat

Come experience our beautiful spacious light-filled cottage situated on the east shores of majestic Lake Winnipeg. Located within the borders of the only protected UNESCO World Heritage Site within Manitoba, our unique area is known for deep boreal forests, incredible wildlife, amazing dark skies for viewing the constellations and aurora borealis, and untouched wilderness. The Ojibwe name for this area is Pimachiowin Aki (pim MATCH – o win – a KEH) which means “Land that gives life” and “Living the good life on the Land”. It is the perfect name for this place; a place where nature and culture come together and are inseparable. Built in 2013, our lovely getaway has an open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, wraparound deck, sunroom, and gorgeous views of the water. Miles from civilization, with just one or two locals to keep you from feeling too isolated, Loon Straits is a hidden gem located on the east shores of Lake Winnipeg, under 3 hours drive north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In addition, we offer customized nature walks, cultural workshops, and kayak and canoe rentals to assist guests in fully experiencing the wonders of this unique area.
