Former Portage la Prairie Indian Residential School (PHS)

Built in 1916, the Former Portage la Prairie Indian Residential School is the oldest existing example in Manitoba of a system of boarding schools for Aboriginal children which was created across Canada between 1883-1960. The Portage school is a good example of prevailing ideas concerning residential school design and still maintains its original quality. Location: Rufus Prince Building, 5000 Crescent Road West. (PHS)
