Giiwe

Giiwe is an Anishinaabe-owned and operated business dedicated to providing immersive cultural experiences that connect visitors to the living history of the land. We are proud to hold "The Original Original" accreditation from the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC). Operating in Riding Mountain National Park, we offer guided walking tours of Lake Katherine (Zhaboomin) inviting you to learn the Anishinaabe story of the land through a cultural experience. Led by an operator with deep ancestral roots, our tours move beyond sightseeing to share the enduring history of the Anishinaabe people through stories passed down through generations alongside verified historical information. Our experiences delve into the intricate relationship between the local flora and fauna and the cultural teachings of the community. By wandering the shores of Zhaboomin, visitors are introduced to the cultural significance of the plants and animals that inhabit the park. These journeys provide a profound understanding of how every living thing contributes to the philosophy of Mino-bimaadiziwin (living the good life), illuminating the enduring presence and voices of the land. Beyond our guided experiences, Giiwe features an online retail collection of Indigenous-designed merch and stunning landscape photography by Aaron McKay that captures and tells the story of the land. Whether you are joining us for a journey or bringing a piece of Giiwe into your home, you can do so with total confidence, knowing our work is dedicated to the preservation of authentic Indigenous storytelling.
