Business Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Presented to an organization, tourism business, facility, event or attraction that demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for both staff and visitors. The nominee has successfully implemented a strategic approach to ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in their everyday business practices and workplace culture.

Alt Hotel Winnipeg

The Alt Hotel Winnipeg takes pride in its DEIB training, activities, and initiatives. The Alt Hotel teaches empathy, a key factor for inclusion, in each of its signature training programs (guest services, guest complaints, and company culture). Employees have even been inspired to create their own DEIB initiatives.

Visitors truly appreciate the way they are welcomed to the Alt Hotel. Designated “Travel Proud” certified by Booking.com, the Alt Hotel’s come-as-you-are mentality has attracted visitors seeking out a safe and welcoming place to stay, meet or hold events. This has generated repeat business for group banquets/guest rooms from diverse groups including The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Pride Winnipeg, APTN and Berens River First Nation.

The Alt Hotel Winnipeg’s ongoing DEIB initiatives stand out even amongst its peers. The Alt Hotel was selected among 18 other properties for a company-wide pilot project and was invited to provide feedback before the program's implementation across Canada.

Pride Winnipeg

Pride Winnipeg has evolved into the city's largest and Manitoba’s second-largest festival which draws an impressive 90,000 to 100,000 people annually. The festival has provided an inclusive and educational environment for individuals and families, which results in a safer and better educated province in 2SLGBTQ+ global issues.

Pride Winnipeg’s involvement extends far beyond festival participation as 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and allies, particularly those outside urban centres, urgently require support and resources. Pride Winnipeg is actively present at public events, engages in collaborative meetings with various organizations and connects with local business owners. These efforts are all aimed at cultivating a province that is safe and inclusive for everyone.
