Many people know Riding Mountain Park for it’s great camping, gorgeous hikes, stunning lakes, watchable wildlife and breathtaking views. But today, we’re going to dig a little deeper and share some of those gems only most locals know about. And the best part, a lot of what you’ll find is within walking distance of the Wasagaming townsite.

Riding Mountain At a Glance:

  • Riding Mountain National Park has plenty beyond its best-known stops, including quiet lakes, lesser-known trails and tucked-away viewpoints.
  • Several spots are especially rewarding around sunrise, sunset or after dark for stargazing and northern lights.
  • Wasagaming makes a convenient base for many of these stops, while others require a short drive deeper into the park or toward Onanole.
  • Some trails and seasonal businesses may have limited access, so check current conditions and hours before heading out.

Riding Mountain is full of places that are easy to miss if you stick to the usual stops. Sometimes the best part of a trip is taking that extra turn and finding somewhere you didn’t expect.

So leave a little room in your plans for something new. You might just find your own favourite spot in the park.
