Composer and pianist Mike Janzen will be joined by a stellar band as well as a 13 piece string orchestra to perform pieces from The Psalms Project, including debut songs from the brand new Psalms Volume III. Powerful, beautiful, and restorative, The Psalms Project are Psalm-inspired songs that Janzen composed and arranged while recovering from a serious concussion injury, later recording them during the pandemic. An artist with diverse talents, Mike Janzen’s jazz releases with his trio have been hailed as “distinctive and sublime” (Jazz Times), while his “intricate, imaginative orchestrations” (Winnipeg Free Press) in his Reimagining Broadway orchestral show (with Sarah Slean) have delighted audiences across Canada. Janzen’s exploration of sacred themes in his album Nudging Forever (original compositions blending lush orchestral sounds with the spontaneity of jazz), earned him a Juno nomination for Jazz Album of the Year (2017).
