Naomi Gerrard – Multigrains of Energy

Multigrains of energy celebrates the importance of our Canadian prairie agriculture. In this series of mixed media art I incorporate grains grown in the prairies. My art collages illustrate how the health of our agriculture is vitally linked to the health of society. Manitobans annually witness the vast prairie landscape as it changes from season to season. When the soil warms in the spring it is seeded by our farmers. As those small grains sprout and mature they transform our prairies through the brown planting season, the green growing season and then the explosion of colour and energy through the blooming season to the harvest season. The new crop of grains is processed into food products for society’s consumption….
