Pouring medium & alcohol ink by Jordan Leigh Miller.
In these pieces, strong, complementary colour blends of primary, secondary and tertiary colours occur naturally, building form into the works. Figures and forms emerge through slight manipulations to the alcohol ink and pouring medium, using tools to sweep and swirl the paint. This intuitive abstract painting style creates a continuous through-line in which the elements of colour and form speak to each other across very different works. In the careful addition of mixed media, mark-making, and the striking of a harmonious balance between artist and artistic medium, these pieces invite the imaginative collaboration of the viewer to mine the forms and further interpret the relationships within the art.
Jordan Leigh Miller, a Winnipeg artist, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (University of Manitoba, Honours, ’02) with majors in Drawing/Painting & Mixed Media. She also holds a diploma in Arts and Cultural Management (University of Winnipeg, ’08).Current memberships include Creative Manitoba (formerly ACI), Mentoring Art for Women’s Art, and Portage & District Arts Centre. She has mentored artists in both the creation and the marketing of art. She has exhibited extensively in many group and solo shows in Winnipeg and in Manitoba. In 2011, Jordan was the recipient of the 35th Annual Woman of Distinction Award, in the Arts Category. The Province of Manitoba recently purchased “Finding Home” which made its permanent home at “Canada House” on Donald Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2015 Jordan was one of three finalists for the Future Leaders of Manitoba. Jordan paints in an abstract style with pouring medium, acrylics, and alcohol inks. Sometimes she enhances her pieces with mixed media and image transfers.
