Flee Island Dakota Entrenchment (PHS)

High BluffThe eastern Dakota (Sioux) of Minnesota traditionally built "cunkaske" - wooden palisades, piles of stones and earthen entrenchments - around their camps and villages for protection. This is the site of a cunkaske and known as The Flee Island Entrenchment. Location: on PR 277, 10 km/6 mi. north and .5 km/.3 mi. west of High Bluff. (PHS)
