These are the Manitoba places you should visit, based on your zodiac sign

Does your zodiac sign really help determine your personality? Some people swear by it; others brush it off as meaningless gibberish. The controversy is real, people! We’re taking a middle-of-the-road approach and thinking that while “nature vs nurture” and, you know, genetics, etc… probably play the biggest role in personality development, there might still be some truth to the broad generalizations that your zodiac tends to depict. We’ve decided to put that to the test and have come up with some Manitoba places and attractions that will speak to your very soul if the zodiacs have anything to say about it.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Strengths of the Ram include courage and diving headfirst into challenging situations. The fire in this sign means they aren’t afraid to jump first, ask questions later (and most of the time, that works out just fine for them!). They are full of energy and have a strong drive to keep active. Fortunately for them, Manitoba is full of adventures that will keep their thrill-seeking nature satisfied, whether that be flying over the Pembina Valley at Hywire Zipline, climbing to new heights at Vertical Adventures, or Activate, Winnipeg’s newest indoor playground where you basically walk into a real life video game!

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Often getting a bad wrap for being over-the-top stubborn and possessive, the bull is also incredibly reliable and devoted. They don’t tend to rush into anything and actively seek out security and stability. Decisions are made carefully with much thought going into all possible scenarios. An easy decision for a Manitoba Taurus? Spend the day at Thermëa. Everyone loves being pampered, but for this Earth sign, getting spoiled is when they are most content. And what better way to while away the day and ponder all of life’s big decisions?

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Represented by the twins, Geminis have a dual personality. Ready to have some fun? Gemini are the social butterflies of the bunch – affectionate and creative, they always have lots of hobbies and projects on the go! They love communication in all forms, so the Winnipeg Fringe Festival is a natural fit giving them dialogue throughout the show and plenty of topics to discuss passionately at an Exchange District watering hole afterwards. The other side is the curious side – searching for answers, transformation and guiding change. This side feels equally at home at The Canadian Museum for Human Rights when they explore and gain inspiration from the stories of those who make an impact in the world.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

The crab is highly sensitive and while they might come across as cold when you first meet them, over time their compassionate nature comes shining through. Above all else, this sign cherishes home and building a safe, cozy space to connect with those close to them. But you can’t always stay at home, so Cancers…head out to Falcon Trails Resort, Bakers Narrows Lodge or Journey Home Artist Retreat for a bit of wilderness, a bit of adventure and whole lot of cozy comfort. Oh…and since you’re also a water sign, you’ll be right at home with all the lakes nearby (or river, in the case of Journey Home)!

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Leo, the lion. What can we say about this fire sign? Natural-born leaders, they love being the centre of attention. Sometimes thought to be arrogant and self-centred, they are actually very generous and loyal. They can be very dramatic and easily imagine themselves living a celebrity lifestyle filled with exclusive parties and lavish dinners. Leos are likely among those first in line making a coveted appointment for a deeply relaxing Turkish hamam treatment at ten spa. If it’s luxurious and unique, Leo is all in.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

The Goddess of wheat and agriculture has historically represented Virgos. Loyal and hardworking, Virgos are planners and like to have a sense of roots running deep in their world. Considering this, what better than to surround yourself with (literal) roots in the ground? Head to Farmery Estate Brewery, where you can head to the fields for a tour of the barley and hops that they use to produce their many varieties of suds. Afterwards, stop into the brewery to see how those crops go from grain to “gulp” and of course, you’ll want to take a few gulps for yourself with a tasting of the final products. In Winnipeg, Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company in The Forks Market and in Wolseley will give Virgos a taste of the fields without leaving the perimeter. And c’mon...cinnamon buns?! Enough said.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Of all the signs, Libras are most captivated by balance and achieving harmony in all aspects of their lives. They do their best to fill their time with music and art and want to be surrounded by all things that reflect their impeccable taste (if they do say so themselves!). Manitoba’s arts and culture scene is so packed with options that the biggest issue the Libra will have (their weakness is indecision) is making a choice! The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Royal Winnipeg Ballet offer world-class performances. The WAVE Interlake Artist Studio Tour shows off the work of talented local artisans. Third + Bird Market events gives Libras the chance to “ooh and ahh” over hundreds of local makers and, even better, to buy beautiful local products to surround themselves with at home.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Have a secret you’re dying to tell? Find a Scorpio. This water sign will never reveal a confidence. They are highly emotional but hide it very well with their calm and cool demeanur. They strive for control and are brave and resourceful. For some, a Twin River Travel paddling trip to the heart of the boreal forest wilderness might sound a little intimidating. For Scorpios, it puts them right in their element. They aren’t afraid of hard work and always maintain a never-say-die attitude.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

If there is one word to describe a core characteristic of the Archer, it would be wanderlust. Ever on the quest for freedom, learning about new cultures and chasing after adventures, this fire sign is always on the move. Lucky then, that Manitoba is full of world-class attractions that draw people from all points of the globe, giving MB Sags the chance to satisfy their travel urges within their own borders. Kayaking with beluga whales in Churchill? Not too many other places you can do that. Or try Winnipeg’s version of the Da Vinci Code: The Hermetic Code tour takes you into a local academic’s 10-year investigation to get into the mind of a dead architect to unravel the secrets of this over 100-year-old “temple in disguise”. There isn’t a story like this anywhere else…

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Remember in school when we got put into groups for a project? And you always held your breath that you’d be in a group with that one person who was always able to stay focused and get the job done? Well, that person was very likely a Capricorn. Responsible and disciplined, the Sea Goat will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. They tend to have traditional values and are fascinated with history and the ways that the past has shaped the current. Hitting the highway to explore the River Road Historic Parkway, spending the day at the Manitoba Museum, or making the exhilarating trek by jet boat with Nelson River Adventures to York Factory National Historic Site give Caps their coveted blast from the past.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

This water sign is happy to go with the flow and take things as they come. Free spirits through and through, they thrive on being part of a community and love being surrounded by others. Often referred to as the “hippies” of the zodiac, these humanitarians love music and dancing. Not much of a stretch then to picture them laying out their tarp and settling in on their favourite patch of grass for a weekend of fresh air and frolic at Birds Hill Park during the Winnipeg Folk Festival or meandering their way through the dunes of Spirit Sands at Spruce Woods Provincial Park.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces are naturally friendly and full of imagination. Maybe it sounds stereotypical, but the truth is, this water sign (represented by the fish) is most comfortable when they are near (wait for it…) WATER! Manitoba’s 100,000 lakes ensure that the Pisces can find their personal happy place just about anywhere they go. Gimli’s prime location on the shores of Lake Winnipeg make for a picturesque look into the Icelandic fishing lifestyle while in the furthest reaches of the north, Gangler’s North Seal River Lodge puts you right in the heart of an undiscovered and untamed wilderness that will set the Pisces’ imaginative nature into overdrive.
