5 of the best spots to go Manitobogganing this winter

Posted March 01, 2022 | Author Breanne Sewards

What's your favourite way to fly down a hill at insane speeds? Maybe you like zooming down on a saucer, or maybe you prefer the classic toboggan.

Flying carpets are a personal favourite of mine, as they bring both convenience and agility to the hill. No matter your style, here are 5 tobogganing hot(er, cold)spots to check out this winter in Manitoba.

1. St. Vital Park, Winnipeg

We know, we know, this is technically a winter SLIDE but to us it is also a great entry-level tobogganing for those not ready for the unpredictable nature of the good ol' fashioned hill. Besides, this slide is ACTUALLY named the "Manitoboggan" and has won several awards for its accessible design. The families here at the Travel Manitoba office all agree: this is one of the best slides to take your kids to this winter in Winnipeg!

2. Spruce Woods Provincial Park

If you're looking to spend an entire day outside this winter, Spruce Woods Provincial Park is the place to be! Head to the park in the heart of winter and enjoy a day at the winter recreation area, complete with ice skating, a warming shelter and of course a tobogganing hill. In the rest of the park, you can snowmobile, cross-country ski or snowshoe! FUN!

3. Hanbury Hill, Brandon

If you live in or visit Brandon this winter, Hanbury Hill is a hotspot for winter fun. Located in Sir Winston Churchill Park, the hill offers two different runs depending on your skill and bravery level, as well as lighting for night tobogganing. Parents (or those who prefer the cozier side of winter) can hang out in the warm up gazebo on the hill.

4. Harbourview Recreation Complex, Winnipeg

Located within Kilcona Park, the Harbourview Recreation Complex will keep your little ones busy with winter activities like ice skating, cross-country skiing, broomball and tobogganing. Rental equipment is available!

5. FortWhyte Alive, Winnipeg

FortWhyte Alive is one of Winnipeg's top winter destinations, providing top-notch programming throughout the year. In between ice fishing, snowshoeing and ice skating, put your courage to the test and climb atop the toboggan run for a high-speed, adrenaline-pumping ride to the bottom. Fair warning: this one is FAST!

And just for fun...

Check out this toboggan run that was located at The Forks in the 1920's! Doesn't look quite up to code...
