Motherhood looks a little different this year. Maybe you’re a grandmother who’s been missing the chance to give your grandkids a hug. Maybe you’re a mom who finds herself at home playing the role of full time daycare, full time teacher, and possibly trying to do your own full time job on top of that. Maybe you’re a front-line worker who hasn’t been able to see much of your kids during these times (and to these moms, we're offering an extra special thank you for all you are doing to keep everyone safe, healthy and fed right now.)

Whatever motherhood looks like for you right now, you deserve to be celebrated.

So partners, husbands, wives, sons, daughters and anyone else who has a wonderful mom in their life to honour, take note: mom doesn’t want to cook today. Here are some delicious ideas to ensure she doesn’t go hungry on her special day.

Mottola grocery, Winnipeg

High tea is a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day and Mottola Grocery has found a way to bring the elegance and treats of high tea to your home. Order their array of goodies that includes fresh baked scones with cream and whipped butter, tea sandwiches made with proscuitto and mint pea or candied orange and ricotta, fresh squeezed orange juice, Cornelia Bean tea and desserts. Throw in a bottle of something boozy and bubbly to make it extra special.

Lakehouse, Wasagaming

The Clear Lake boutique hotel has been serving up home-cooked meals to the surrounding area since the pandemic began and Mother’s Day is no exception. Try their brunch option with broccoli chedddar quiche or Finnish pancakes, hashbrowns, parfait and croissants. Dinner brings bacon-wrapped chicken stuffed with cheese and nuts, rice pilaf, veggies, biscuits and mixed berry pie for dessert. Add ons include charcuterie board, cocktail kits and cupcake kits among the various options.

Farmhouse 50, Minnedosa

This sweet spot is offering a ‘Mother’s Day Dream Package’ complete with a gourmet meal consisting of stuffed chicken breast, parmesan potatoes and roasted veggies. There’s also a decadent dessert (fit for a queen, no less), and a special gift that will say ‘I love you’. Tag on a bottle wine or flowers (or both, definitely both) to finish it off.

Loaf and Honey, Winnipeg

This little local business has taken a challenge and turned it into something amazing with their array of homemade meals that you just heat and eat. They’ve turned it up with both a Mother’s Day brunch and dinner option. In the morning, mom can feast on lemon poppy seed ricotta pancakes, fresh baked pastries, ham and cheese crepes and other goodies. For dinner, opt for trout papillote, chicken in Golden Prairie cheese sauce or eggplant involtini, served with sides and dessert.

Prairie Firehouse, Brandon

Make it a breakfast to remember with Prairie Firehouse’s Mother’s Day meal kit featuring eggs benedict, including locally sourced ham and hashbrowns. Wash it all down with a mimosa kit--we recommend the large.

Pineridge Hollow, Oakbank

This spot has been a favourite for Mother’s Day celebrations for years and the good news is you don’t have to miss out with their delivery or pick up Mother’s Day menu. The offering includes maple glazed bacon, waffles, eggs in various ways, desserts and pastries. Be sure to add on a mimosa kit and a cupcake decorating kit to keep the kids occupied while mom puts up her feet and takes a rest.

Fairmont Winnipeg, Winnipeg

The Fairmont’s ‘to-go’ menu is a great way to treat mom. Choose from options with dishes like roasted whole Manitoba chicken, cold smoked blackened salmon filet, spinach ricotta cannelloni, boston cream cake, cheesecake and a whole bunch of other options. Opt for a chef’s wine pairing, obviously.
