Ahh, spring. Flowers are blooming, eggs are hatching and children are running wild. This week in Manitoba, kids rule. That’s right – spring break is here and school’s out for well, one week. But one week is more than enough time to have a whole lot of fun exploring the province! Find magical eggs hidden around the historic Forks site or give into tom foolery at the Festival of Fools. There are endless camps to participate in throughout the province and plenty of ways to celebrate our beautiful spring. Here’s what’s hot in Manitoba, spring break edition!
Wander the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Canadian Museum for Human Rights
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open daily this spring break, with plenty of family-friendly activities that will take participants throughout the museum’s many floors. The week will feature a scavenger hunt, hands-on activities and a live theatrical performance. Activities included in the cost of admission.
Have a blast in farm country

Celebrate the fun of farm country at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair! Get your hands dirty in the Ag-tivity Zone, scope out the competition worthy cows in Cattle Country, pick up new tricks at the Super Dogs demonstrations, or score some face time with cuddly critters at the Royal Petting Zoo. Don’t forget to check out the many horse events and an exciting lineup of family-friendly entertainment.
Embark on an epic Easter egg hunt

Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada: Head out on March 27, 2:00 pm to the Aviation Museum for an egg-cellent, egg-citing, eggs-travagant, Easter Egg hunt! You’ll get started by making your own Easter basket before starting the hunt throughout the hangar – among the planes – looking up and down for hidden treasures! Free admission for members. Children under age 2 admitted free. Non-members admission: $6.
Oak Hammock Marsh: An epic hunt is waiting for you at Oak Hammock Marsh from March 25 to 27. Kids can participate in spring crafts, bunny bingo and a GPS egg hunt. A more traditional Easter egg hunt will take place on Sunday throughout the exhibits.
Travel Manitoba Visitor Information Centre at The Forks: Kids are invited to hop into the Visitor Information Centre at The Forks on March 26 to pick up an Easter Scavenger Hunt form and embark on an daring hunt around the historic Forks site. Find the Easter Eggs hidden in The Forks and bring your completed form back to the VIC for a delicious prize from Chocolatier Constance Popp and The Almond Tree.
Celebrate magic and tomfoolery

On spring break, The Forks Market comes alive with clowning, magic and general tomfoolery at the 16th annual Festival of Fools! Enjoy nine days of smiles at this FREE event that features jugglers, clowns, acrobats, swinging trapeze and tons of hilarious shows! The kids can join in on the fun too! Register them for one of the circus, craft or trapeze workshops running throughout the event.
Make a splash at the Slush Cup
Asessippi Ski Area & Resort
This year, make a big splash on the last day of Asessippi’s ski season at Slush Cup, an event for only the bravest souls! Cheer on the daring participants as they compete for prizes for biggest splash, best costume, most style and more.
Go wild at Assiniboine Park Zoo

Monkeys and polar bears and leopards, oh my! Say hello to all the beautiful wild animals at Assiniboine Park Zoo. The Zoo has over 80 park-like acres for you to explore and interact with wildlife species from around the world. Throughout Spring Break, the Zoo will be offering Zookeeper talks and family fun activities:
- Polar bear plunge: March 29. Take a journey to Churchill and learn about polar bears.
- Into the jungle: March 30. Explore the Park’s two tropical jungles at Toucan Ridge and the Conservatory.
- Horsing around: March 31. It’s a “Whose Hooves” at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Saddle up to go on an old western adventure with the horses at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
- Wild Art: April 1. Help beautify the Zoo with artwork, and help the animals play by creating enrichment items for them to learn and play with.

Get creative with a new theme every day at the WAG’s Spring Break Art Camp! Have fun making a masterpiece with a professional artist, experimenting with new art forms, playing active games, and seeing art in the galleries, including the monumental exhibition of Olympus. Family Fusion takes place on March 29, where you can tap into your inner DIY guru. Get together with your family to create recycled robots out of old pop cans, left-over wire and techno-trash.
There’s something for teens too, who can spend the week in mural madness with with mural master, Michael St. Hilaire.
Spring break at the Aviation Museum

The Aviation Museum is a kid’s paradise this spring break, with awesome activities for the whole family. Kids can create their own airplane flowers at the craft station, or play dress-up and pretend to be a pilot, engineer or flight attendant. Other activities include learning about the flying workhorses of Canada’s arctic and experimenting with wind power.

This spring break, get in touch with nature at FortWhyte Alive. Spring break festivities at FortWhyte Alive kick off with an Easter Brunch and an exciting Spring Scavenger Hunt on March 27. Next, stop in for a Kids’ Craft on March 29 and a Guided Hike on March 30. Spring break wraps up with Storytelling and Bannock on March 31 – not a bad way to end an action-packed week, if you ask us!

As always, tickets are limited, so grab what you can before they’re all gobbled up. Come by to check out displays from awesome tourist destinations across the province including FortWhyte Alive, Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Oak Hammock Marsh, Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre, Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Manitoba Museum. Demonstrations will take place March 19 and 20 from 10 to 2 pm.
