Game time: The best spots in Winnipeg to watch sports

Posted October 09, 2018 | Author Joey Traa

Despite the lowering temperatures, premature snowfall, and post-summer blues, October will always be the true most wonderful time of the year for one chunk of Manitoba’s population: sports fans!

With the Jets season underway, football going strong, baseball playoffs in full swing, and basketball just around the corner, it’s a real sports smorgasbord this time of the year. And while we’d all love to be up against the glass at Bell MTS Place, many of us will be on the lookout for a watering hole to sink into to take in the sports season. Fortunately, there are many prime places to enjoy the game in Winnipeg. Whether you're looking to get shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow fans, or just relax in a comfy booth with a plate of nachos - we got you.

The Met

The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre is the classiest place you can go where not only is a Jets jersey accepted, but it’s encouraged. Enjoy the atmosphere of game day on Portage Avenue, and head to The Met to catch Winnipeg Jets home games on the big screen, accompanied with great food and tasty cocktails. Pro tip: The Met hosts fans for home games only, and also don't forget to check their website ahead of time to make sure there aren’t any conflicting events which fall on the same day.

Underdogs

Get in the game...by playing games...before the game. Underdogs is not only stocked with an excellent menu full of pub classics with a high octane twist, over 30 beers on tap, and screens everywhere, but they've also got ping pong, skee-ball, foosball, pop-a-shot basketball, classic arcade games and much more to keep you entertained at pregame, intermission, and while you’re celebrating the latest Jets victory!

The Pint

If you’re looking to rub shoulders with Jets fans just a block away from the home barn, The Pint is the place to be. With its high-energy atmosphere, filled with enthusiastic sports fans catching the game, The Pint is the perfect place to go if you want to cheer loud after every goal, and high-five friends and fellow fans. With big screen TVs, over 40 wing flavours, and a "we're all in this together" environment, get to The Pint to soak in the game, or even enjoy a drink before you head over to Bell MTS Place to see the action first-hand.

Brown’s Social House

If you’ve driven past Bell MTS Place during a big game, chances are you’ve glanced at one of their massive TV screens while stopped at a red light, a screen so big you probably could even catch the score from the front seat. Located just across the street from Bell MTS Place, the energy is sure to be high, and the food is tasty enough to keep you happy for the entirety of a game. It’s a big space with a lot of seating, so head down with your friends to take part in the buzz downtown that always exists when the Jets are in town or on TV.

The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame

Bars and restaurants aren’t the only way to take in the action of the sports season. If you’re looking to catch a game on a special occasion, or just wanting a different atmosphere during a particularly big matchup, you can actually rent out the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and watch the game surrounded by a gallery which highlights the very best and most inspiring athletes Manitoba has to offer! The gallery, which is located in the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre, has a large projection screen, and has catering options as well to help host your party and get the mood and food right for the game. Check out their website for full details.
