Remember last year when you were running through the mall on December 24th, desperately seeking that perfect (but inevitably sold out) gift? That’s not going to happen this year. This year, take a roadtrip through what we like to call “Manitoba’s Craft Trail” for everything on your holiday shopping list. That’s right, craft season has arrived and there are over 50 shows and markets to browse. Here are 5 amazing finds to look for at this year’s craft sales…

1. Cozy finds

As soon as the temperature drops, it seems everyone ditches their summer gear as quickly as possible for the cozier (and possibly superior) knits of fall. Craft shows are one of the best places to find handmade crochet and knit goods, from hats to scarves, to blankets and boot cuffs. Imagery of fireplaces, hot cocoa and snowy nights are sure to follow as you browse these cozy items.

2. Yummy finds

Honey butter? Pie in a jar? Gourmet mustard? We’re sold. These are just a few of the artisan products you can find at a Manitoba craft sale. Local food products make for excellent additions to gift baskets or as a gesture of gratitude for hosts and hostesses. Alternatively, keep them for yourself and incorporate them into your next holiday gathering. Your guests will thank you.

3. Homey finds

Decorating your home for the holidays will be no problem after browsing these crafty housewares. Find everything from tree ornaments to furniture to artwork and wall pieces. One of the best ways to get into the spirit of the season is to decorate, decorate and decorate. But please, don’t keep your tree up until March. Please.

4. Smelly finds

Cinnamon, peppermint, pine cones and flannel. These are just some of the scents from my candle collection – and you bet my house will be smelling like Santa’s living room by the end of November (at the latest). Candles, soaps, fragrances and perfumes are among the most popular finds at craft shows since they are often made with local products that are natural and environmentally sustainable. Oh, and you’ll smell really good.

5. Pretty finds

Last but not least – a gift for that special someone on your list. Everyone loves getting shiny gifts in a small box, so why not make it extra special by getting something handmade? Glassware, necklaces, rings and earrings are at no short supply at Craft Shows – but again, let’s not wait until December 24.
