March is here, which means spring is on the way! But don't worry there's still time to enjoy the last few days of winter. Love Local Manitoba takes place March 7, 2020 at Victoria Inn (Wellington Ave. near the airport), from 5 p.m to 9 p.m. This early spring celebration will wash away the winter blues and feature food and beverage artisans from across Manitoba. 

2. Have a weekend of fun at the Gimli Ice Festival

If you're heading up to Gimli on the first weekend of March, you'll find some pretty wacky activities underway as part of the Gimli Ice Festival. Watch cars race on the frozen lake, compete in the frozen fish toss, yell and cheer during the viking demonstrations, cook bannock over the fire, and participate in some snowy team challenges. Gimli celebrates winter in a way nowhere else in Manitoba can. 

3. Celebrate the final days of winter at the Pipoon Festival

Trappers’ Fest has come and gone, but here’s your chance to experience another festival of similar vein. Head to the Pipoon Festival 2020 in Norway House. Events include the king and queen trapper, square dance and singing competitions, open recreation hockey, snow sculpting, a fish fry, and much more.

4. Get your adrenaline pumping at a power toboggan race

March 7 & 8 | Beausejour

The fastest racers in the world? A world-class racing track made of pure ice? Insane speeds of over 160 km/hr? The Canadian Power Toboggan Championships are back in Beausejour and it's an adrenaline lover's dream. Get your tickets online or at the door, and witness the best in the world duke it out for the CPTC crown.

7. Enjoy a week of films

Now in its 24th year, the Freeze Frame, International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages rolls around again for 8 days of 40 films and 150 hours of workshops. This year’s incredible lineup includes animated, live-action, documentaries and short films.

8. See the fur trade from a new perspective

February 26 to March 16 | Tom Hendry Warehouse

Experience a theatre show that combines history and humour through the eyes of the women of the fur trade era. Women of the Fur Trade focuses on three women and shows their perspectives as they share parts of their lives in the changing world of the 19th century.

9. Appreciate art in the Exchange District

March 6 | Exchange District, Winnipeg

Explore Winnipeg's Exchange District during First Fridays to discover the arts scene in Winnipeg's original Downtown. Art galleries in the area have extended hours and restaurants, cafe and pubs will host local musicians for an evening of art appreciation.

March 8 | Burton Cummings Theatre
