Are you on the hunt for a gift for the ultimate Manitoban in your life?

We checked in with Third + Bird, the province's largest artisan market (and 2018 winner of Travel Manitoba's tourism innovation award), and asked them to recommend some locally made gift ideas with a decidedly Manitoba flare, which can be sourced at Third + Bird's upcoming 10th anniversary Christmas market happening November 23 & 24 at The Bay downtown. Here is a round-up of artisans and their cool wares that champion our province:

Indigo Arrows @indigo_arrows

Textile designer Destiny Seymour honours her Indigenous heritage by transferring ancient patterns found on her ancestor’s pottery and bone tools onto textile to create throw pillows and tea towels. Indigo Arrows line, which also includes eye-catching grandmother moon quilts and drum stools, bring an element of wisdom and strength to any space.

Huron Woodwork @huronwoodwork

The handsome, handcrafted items by Huron Woodwork bring a piece of Manitoba wilderness into your living room. The wood items are a simple reminder that home is where the heart is. Fan favourite Toba blocks are a creative gift for any proud Manitoban. Pull out a Huron Woodwork keystone-shaped cribbage board at your holiday family gathering and it’ll be an instant hit.

Dimi Gallery @dimigallery

Artist Kristina Dimitrova is inspired by the beauty, colours and pride of the prairies. Prints of her hand-drawn Manitoba icons and maps of favourite urban neighbourhoods can be found in restaurants, galleries and shops around Winnipeg. We particularly love her clever line of Lake Maps, which allow Manitobans to bring a piece of their summer getaway into their home all year round.

Tall Grass Spirits @capitalkwpg

Local Capital K Distillery is behind the Tall Grass brand of grain-to-bottle craft spirits. Pick up bottles of their creative vodkas, gins and rums at Third + Bird (or Manitoba Liquor Mart locations) – they deserve a spot on your bar during this holiday entertaining season. Look for a limited-time only label that commemorates Third + Bird's milestone Christmas market.

Kevin Fawley @kevinfawley_art

Kevin Fawley’s work is a perfect gift idea for that hard-to-shop-for Manitoban on your list (ahem, like your brother). Fawley’s style mixes archival photographs of iconic Winnipeg locations with his signature post-apocalyptic, film noir style (and often infuses bizarre pop culture references). Designs are not only available in framed wall art, but on everyday practical items such as coffee mugs, smartphone cases, and laptop sleeves.

North City Growlers @northcitygrowlers

Manitobans are an increasingly craft beer-loving crowd, so give a gift that makes a favourite pastime a bit more personal. North City’s Growlers, with their only-in-Manitoba designs, are the perfect host/hostess gift to have in hand when you show up at your next holiday house party.

North Flag @northflag

North Flag, which also has a brick-and-mortar shop on Academy Road in Winnipeg, is behind the popular, Manitoba-proud lifestyle clothing line Middle Province. The casual comfort of their tees, sweatshirts and baseball caps make it a very versatile gift.

Silver Birch Designs @silverbirchdesigns

We love that these laser-cut, wood maps of Winnipeg neighbourhoods with distinctive rivers running through them. Silver Birch Designs also makes other etched-wood gifts such as cutting boards for the culinarian and journals for the scribe on your list.

js Letter Co. @js.letterco

js Letter Co. tugs at the heartstrings with a collection of stationary and home décor items with inspirational sayings. One of the hottest gift items of the season will be a Manitoba-inspired welcome map that reminds us that home is where we choose put down our roots.

Beeproject Apiaries @beeprojectca

Locally made takes on whole new meaning when it’s bees doing the making. Snag a jar of Beeproject Apairies’ honey, a passion project of a local beekeeping couple who work with businesses to host urban hives and bring the pollinators back to downtown Winnipeg.

Scientific Sweets @scientificsweets

This holiday season, add a few of these keystone-shaped cookies to your dainty tray, or stuff them into stockings. These cookies are local flavours that even kiddos will appreciate. Did we mention that Hollywood influencer Khloe Kardashian commissioned Scientific Sweets this summer for some custom cookies for her baby's homecoming? They are that good.

The Peg Authentic @thepegauthentic

The city’s nickname has turned into a street wear clothing brand thanks to the folks behind The Peg Authentic. Even though it may seem early, we suggest pre-ordering one of their super-popular Whiteout jerseys….’cause we all know the Winnipeg Jets are making the playoffs again this year.

In addition to Third + Bird's annual Christmas market, look for some of these Manitoba makers during Third + Bird's pop-up events at The Forks Market: The Forks Holiday Bazaar on November 30, and PopUp@TheForks December 8 & 9, 15 & 16, 22 & 23.
