We are three weeks into the start of a new year, and already the month of February is fast approaching! With the mild weather we have been receiving, it's the perfect opportunity to be outdoors, trying new things, and going to new places. Here are 10 things to do this week in Manitoba!

1. pump up for potatoes

Pump up for potatoes! Potato Week celebrates Manitoba potatoes, the growers who expertly produce them, and the restaurants who creatively prepare them. Potato week begins Friday January 20th! Plan out your visits by checking out the interactive map on their website and be sure to check out these spud-tacular dishes and vote for your favourite potato dish!

2. ooh, ahh, and lights galore

From brick and terracotta buildings to storefronts, rooftops and alleyways, Lights on the Exchange – Allumez le Quartier invites you to explore light in its many forms and settings. Canadian artists create fresh, contemporary installations, sculptures and projections that reveal a reimagined history of the area. Grab a hot drink or snack from a local eatery and tour the Exchange District after dark!

If you weren't able to get your hands on tickets to the coveted return of RAW:Almond, fear not. This year, RAW:Almond is bringing back its à la carte brunch for three weekends throughout the winter. Skate or walk up to enjoy delicious breakfast fare from Crumb Queen and Dem Hoagie Boyz - no tickets required! Brunch runs January 28 to 29, February 4 to 5 and February 11 to 12 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Crokicurl combines two iconic Canadian pastimes, crokinole and curling, to become an exciting outdoor sport! The object of the game is to accumulate the most points through shooting the rock into the center button and positioning the rocks on the playing surface so they remain within the highest scoring circle at the end of the round. To open the locked box with the rocks inside, call the Altona rec office at 204-324-9005. Outside office hours, contact the maintenance staff at 204-324-6973.

7. cache in adventure

The fun of geocaching doesn't stop, even in winter. Geocaching is a worldwide adventure sport which utilizes GPS devices to hide and seek hidden containers, called geocaches. To get started geocaching, all you need is a GPS receiver and a geocache location. You can find a nearby geocache location at geocaching.com by entering an address or town into the search box. Connect with other like minded individuals through the Manitoba Geocaching Association! A fun and adventurous way to see our beautiful province.

8. coffee, croissants and... cruffins?!
