It started as a fun way to promote Manitoba's Halloween spirit on the ManitobaHot.com blog, and now Travel Manitoba's 14 Manitoba-inspired costumes blog post has been named one of the world's best tourism campaigns according to the Toronto Sun. Costumes inspired by Manitoba icons - wildlife, people, and food - including the Sexy Perogie - were included in a list that includes New York's tourism campaign featuring Taylor Swift, Banff's campaign with the photobombing squirrel, and Las Vegas's "What happens here, stays here" campaign.
The Halloween blog post, written by Travel Manitoba's Digital Marketing Assistant Breanne Sewards was featured on CBC Manitoba. The post was then featured along with an interview with Travel Manitoba's Social Media Specialist Kirsten Neil on the national radio broadcast As it Happens and was also mentioned on The Mercer Report.
The Toronto Sun, which has an average daily readership of 560,000, also placed the Manitoba-themed costumes on its list of "world's strangest tourism campaigns". Travel Manitoba spent just $25 promoting the post on Facebook, and the social media team is already brainstorming ideas for next year's Halloween post.
