Fossil Dig Adventure

Unearth ancient marine reptiles on a fossil dig adventure at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre (CFDC)! This is one of Manitoba’s hottest tourism products where you can hunt for fossils on active dig sites in the Morden area. Home to Bruce, the 43-foot mosasaur (or marine reptile), the CFDC is unearthing a steady stream of fossils near Morden – an area that was once covered by a saltwater seaway in the Late Cretaceous Period.

Paddle the Bloodvein

For those who know how to paddle hard, have you challenged yourself on the rugged whitewater of the Bloodvein River yet? There are over 100 sets of rapids and falls along the Bloodvein downstream of the Manitoba/Ontario border, many of them runnable, and more than 70 portages. The path of the Bloodvein has remained virtually unchanged since the retreat of the last glaciers, 11,000 years ago. This is one of those adventures that you need to take a few days to enjoy.

Winnipeg Goldeyes games

Whether the channel catfish is the ugliest fish to inhabit Manitoba waters is certainly a topic of debate. What isn’t up for discussion is their ability to deliver fantastic fishing action, no matter if they are big or small. You can catch these toothless fighters in lots of places in Manitoba, but if there’s one place that offers increased odds, it’s near Lockport on the Red River.

Seeing Rights and Liberties: Celebrating the Canadian Museum for Human Rights
Aug 10 to Jan 11 | Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg
Seeing Rights and Liberties is a special exhibition to salute the upcoming opening of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Drawn from the WAG’s permanent collection, it features works that speak to the theme of human rights. Compelling images—Jack Shadbolt’s response to the atrocities he witnessed as a World War II war artist, Edward Burtynsky’s exploration of the human toll industry takes, Käthe Kollwitz’s renderings of defeated workers, and Jamasie Pitseolak’s personal account of abuse suffered at school—that immediately inform the viewer of the plights humans face.
Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden

Enter the magical world of butterflies at the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden. This seasonal exhibit is full of native butterfly species (including monarchs and painted ladies) and sub-tropical species fluttering around a peaceful, pastoral garden full of colourful flowers, benches and water features.
