Join your industry peers and attend the 2014 Travel Conference and Manitoba Tourism Awards celebration.  The Conference is an annual forum for the tourism industry to learn the latest trends, share new ideas and explore ways to collaborate with partners.

For the first day of this year's conference, our goal is to generate ideas that will maximize tourism opportunities related to Canada's 150th celebrations in 2017.  On day two, we will look at tourism in the digital world. First, we'll see how technology has the power to change customer communications, then we'll learn how to manage your digital reputation.

Dreaming Big: Living Bigger

Jon Montgomery delighted Canadians by winning Gold in Men's Skeleton at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Now, as host of The Amazing Race Canada, he is a charming ambassador for our country's most beautiful sights. Whether he's in snowy Nunavut, on a lentil farm in Saskatchewan, or on stage presenting a keynote speech, Montgomery is genuinely funny and always inspiring.

While Jon Montgomery always wanted to be a Canadian National Team athlete, he didn't know which sport it would be in. Keeping his eyes wide open, living outside his comfort zone, trying new things and accepting the challenges that presented themselves enabled him to find his passion and his opportunity to realize his dreams. Montgomery's story inspires others to go after what they're looking for, no matter how daunting a task it may at first seem.

1:45-3:00 Interactive Plenary Session - Canada's 150th Celebrations in 2017

Canada marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.  Historically, national anniversaries have motivated businesses and communities to activate Bold Ideas.  How can we leverage this national anniversary to benefit the tourism industry? What major events marking this milestone could attract tourists from around the world? Is there an opportunity to develop and target specific consumer segments that have strong potential for growth in the lead up to 2017?

With a little more than two years to go, now is the time for the tourism industry to think creatively about opportunities for Manitoba in 2017. This lively panel discussion, facilitated by Lloyd Fridfinnson, Vice President, Probe Research, will include presentations that outline:

  • The Canadian Tourism Commission's invitation to the tourism industry to partner and invest in inspiring young Canadians to travel in Canada in the lead up to and throughout 2017.
  • The great potential to increase the economic impact for the broader tourism industry when Winnipeg plays host to the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games in August 2017 with co-chairs Hubert Mesman and Mariette Mulaire,
  • The significant role arts and culture plays in attracting tourists and extending their length of stay. Manitoba's arts and cultural leaders are looking forward to 2017 celebrations that will showcase Manitoba artists and attractions on a global stage.
