Manitoba Regional Profiles

The regional profile reports have been prepared in order to illustrate the characteristics of tourists not only visiting the province, but also segmenting them into our 8 tourism regions. As well, this series of reports will help to identify new and continuing trends within the province.

The Regional Tourism Profile Reports (2009) have been updated with the latest data available from Statistics Canada. These reports will allow you to explore the following tourism statistics in your area:

  • Tourism visitation and expenditure
  • Top visitor origins
  • Main purpose of overnight trip
  • Expenditures by category
  • Visitation by quarter
  • Lodging used by overnight visitors
  • Overnight Party composition

Please note that the 2006 numbers are based on Statistics Canada's Travel Survey of Residents of Canada (TSRC). Previous reports were based on Statistics Canada's Canadian Travel Survey (CTS). As the TSRC relies on a different approach to defining domestic tourism and collects information from a different portion of the Canadian population than the CTS (last conducted in 2004), the 2006 TSRC represents the new baseline year for domestic tourism in Canada.

For these reasons, TSRC estimates of domestic tourism volume, value and characteristics are not directly comparable to historical estimates from the CTS. Therefore, 2006 regional profile reports are not directly comparable to the 2004 profiles.
