As Travel Manitoba continues to reach new levels of success with its social media – we are now at over 14,000 fans on Facebook – we are also continuing to help industry operators improve their own social media presence. A pilot project delivered by Think! Social Media for six Manitoba fish and hunt operators was able to do just this.
The six operators who participated in the education workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions saw a total of 8,228 new fans collectively between their Facebook pages. A key to the success of this pilot project was to help fish/hunt operators create and optimize content to increase engagement with their Facebook page. The fan pages collectively engaged 24,409 users and 18,351 photo views occurred during the four month pilot program. In all, Manitoba fishing and hunting content on Facebook reached 1,727,011 people, and registered a total of 3,385,628 impressions.
While some of the operators were already quite active on social media, with one operator increasing from 4,587 Facebook fans to 10,274, two others started with zero presence on Facebook and now have over 2250 fans between them.
While Facebook is the most used social media platform for the fish/hunt industry in Manitoba and where operators see the best return, many expressed interest in learning about Twitter, blogs and TripAdvisor – including the importance of responding to negative reviews.
And with the results these operators have experienced over the four month project, the challenge will be – as is the case with any type of tourism business – to find the time to post content on a regular basis, especially during the busy summer months. Content calendars and collecting images throughout the year to post at anytime are two tips these operators, and others, can use to keep reeling in social media results.
