Social media can seem daunting to small business owners, but eleven fish and hunt operators got the chance to learn about social media strategy, including how to effectively use Facebook and Twiiter, and how to monitor, crowdsource and manage their online reputations at a workshop hosted by Travel Manitoba on February 21.
Led by social media consultant Aaron Nissen of Think! Social Media, the workshop was the first part in a pilot program which will see the participants receive one-on-one coaching to further improve their social media presence.
“I really did not know anything about Twitter before this session and really was not drawn to it,” said one workshop participant. “But I can see how it all ties in and how [all social media] work to feed off each other and get you more visible.”
Live demonstrations and a list of “dos and don’ts” helped the social media novices in the group get a firm grasp on the potential of social media. All participants said they would recommend this workshop to others.
Currently, Think! Social Media is working with events around Manitoba to help them use social media before, during and after their event. And in July and August, experienced blogger Robyn Hanson will tour the province, engaging targeted communities through the use of social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TripAdvsor). Group social media workshops will be offered at certain itinerary stops during the tour, so watch for further details. Plus, in the fall, Travel Manitoba will once again host regional social media workshops, offering hands-on training for industry operators.
