Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park

Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park This historic vacation spot offers a famous sand beach, a restored boardwalk,

A Lake Winnipeg destination for more than 100 years, this resort town 45 kilometres north of Winnipeg off Hwy. 8 was so popular in the early 19th century, it was serviced by as many as 13 trains a day.

Commuting fathers arrived each Friday on the Daddy Train to join their families for the weekend, and couples took the Moonlight Special to spend evenings dancing and romancing at a pavilion near the beach.

Today, you can catch concerts at an outdoor bandstand on summer weekends, grill lunch on one of the barbecues on the vast park lawn, stroll on the boardwalk or relax on the beach and enjoy an expansive view of the vast inland ocean.

Shops and restaurants right across the street from the beach offer burgers, ice cream and plenty of browsing opportunities.

Swim, bike, play tennis or volleyball. Ride the wind and waves on a sailboat or windsurfing board. Bring your fishing tackle and plan to stay a while. You can check into a new campground with 120 full-service sites - including buddy sites for friends who camp as a group - and join the fun when the town celebrates its centennial in 2014.
