Asessippi Provincial Park

Asessippi Provincial Park The park is settled at the south end of Lake of the Prairies, a man-made lake

When the snow falls at Asessippi Provincial Park, it brings the thrill of the hill. Skiers, snowboarders and tubers get their kicks flying down 25 groomed runs at Asessippi Ski Area and Resort, just 15 minutes north of Russell.

Cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails are close to the resort's charming ski village, where you can take a break in the Powder Keg Pub and browse in the gift shop.

In early spring, crocuses are the first flowers to show their blooms in park meadows, while summer brings the sweet scent of wild roses to this intersection of two river valleys. That's the time to take a tube off the slopes and plop it into the Shell Valley River, or work those arms with a kayak rental. Fish for walleye off the barrier-free fishing dock, take a dip in Lake of the Prairies and discover the park's 8,500 year-old glacial roots as you hike the Ancient Valley Self-guiding Trail. Facilities include camping, yurts, hiking, boat rentals, accessible washrooms and a snack bar. Web: www.manitobaparks.com
