1st Annual Manitoba Catfish Invitational Tournament |
Welcome to the 1st Annual Manitoba Catfish Invitational Tournament, August 6-8, 2010, in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Organized by the Selkirk and District Chamber of Commerce, this event promises to attract loads of two-person catfishing teams from across North America. With the Manitoba Catfish Invitational set to go, tournament organizers believe that anglers who get a taste of the great fishing will come back often. Legendary angler Al Lindner calls the channel catfishery in the Selkirk area “the best in the world!”
Don Lamont, writer for the Winnipeg Free Press, says “catfishing north of Lockport continues to be as hot as the weather.” The top prize for the tournament is $20,000 with giant cash prizes for the top 15 finalists. The entry fee per two-person boat team is just $500. Deadline to register is July 31, 2010.

Entries must be in by July 30, 2010 to be eligible. Registration will take place at the Selkirk boat launch in Selkirk Park. Fishing will be permitted from the Red River Floodway spillway to the Highway 4 Bridge. For more info see the rules and regulations page.

Trophy Northern Pike at its best!
Dunlop’s Fly-In Lodge & Outpost. As we flew over Lake Waskaiowaka, located about 100 miles from Thompson Manitoba, the anticipation of hooking into a 50 inch northern pike made the hair on my arms stand at attention. As the plane came to a stop on the private airstrip we were immediately greeted by the lodge owners, Jerry and Colette Dunlop, and the rest of the staff and guides. Talk of 50 inch pike was the main topic of conversation. We had heard from Jerry days before the trip that a 50 incher was caught and released and many fish over 42 inches had also been landed. I could hardly wait to start tossing the big baits in hope of catching a MONSTER northern pike. After our luggage and gear was taken to our cabin and we had a quick home cooked breakfast it was off to the docks to meet our guides. Jerry had just purchased all new... READ MORE |
