Treaty 5

The Pas / OCN

Gateway to the North.

The Saskatchewan River flows between the town of The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation, two neighbours that come together to show off their culture, history and sparkling natural attractions to visitors.

I Love The Pas mural

A mix of honouring the past and looking towards the future defines the town of The Pas and its neighbour, Opaskwayak Cree Nation. Here you can attend a festival that celebrates the skills required to thrive in the north, then check out the live entertainment at Aseneskak Casino. See Indigenous artifacts at a museum before visiting a local shop to order custom made moccasins.

Just fifteen minutes from The Pas is the beautiful Clearwater Lake Provincial Park. The lake lives up to its name as swimmers, boaters and anglers are drawn to explore its turquoise depths. You can camp here or stay at a resort or lodge on Clearwater Lake or others in the area, like Rocky Lake. No matter where you stay, be sure to bring your rod - the fishing here promises non-stop action year-round.

Backcountry Adventures

If you've never heard of or travelled Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, it's about time you did. Nestled in Manitoba's north about a 6.5-hour drive northwest of Winnipeg, it can be easy to overlook this diamond in the wild.

My visit to Rocky Lake was about to get even more quintessentially northern Manitoba thanks to a backcountry fishing expedition.
