In addition to glorious greens, the wealth of other sights and surroundings make Manitoba a true golfers’ paradise, and lovers’ lair.
Weeklong Hot Tubs & Hazards Tour
Who says golf tours are just for the pros? Grab your sweetheart, pack the clubs, select your favourite road tunes, and enjoy your very own golf circuit. Manitoba is so vast in size and rich in recreation that you can drive in any direction and find a fairway. Pre-select a few places to play and make it a weeklong adventure of swinging in the surf, sand and sunshine. Don’t forget the sunscreen.
Enjoy a little romance in the rough by playing ruggedly scenic courses by day and hot-tubbing it at night. Eastern Manitoba is home to some of the most spectacular and challenging fairways you’ll find. With a golf tour winding through Canadian Shield country, it’s not uncommon to tee off from atop rocky ledges, lob over natural obstacles, or hunt for your ball in the boreal forest.
Your trip begins by travelling east on the Trans-Canada Highway to Falcon Beach Ranch. Enjoy a scenic one-hour horseback trail ride before relaxing around the open fire, with steak grilled just the way you like it. Soak in the outdoor hot tub, then cuddle up in the chalet style cabin nestled in the pines.
Rise and shine to a tee time at Falcon Lake Golf Course, one of Manitoba’s premier locales. Warm up on the driving range before heading out on fairways lined with thick forest. Be lulled by Falcon Creek, winding its way through and coming into play on nine of the 18 holes. Be prepared for a lovely day with your loved one before departing for an overnight at West Hawk Lake.
Tallpine Lodges is nestled in Whiteshell Provincial Park, and one of the originators of the ‘couples only’ concept in Manitoba. Each individual cabin-built-for-two offers peaceful seclusion. Enjoy your own Jacuzzi and sauna, and curl up in front of the fireplace with your special someone. Warning: Tallpine Lodges may induce feelings of love.
Head north the next morning for more Whiteshell wonders. East of Seven Sisters Falls you’ll find several scenic lakes like Eleanor, Dorothy and Jessica. Spend your day exploring and adventuring along more than 50 kilometres of trails. Visit the Bannock Point Petroforms where you’ll see ancient stones placed in the outline of turtles, snakes and other sacred shapes.
Rest up at Barrier Bay Resort, an adult escape providing luxury on a lakefront setting. It’s the perfect place to celebrate your longtime love or advance a blossoming romance. Barrier Bay features sensuous whirlpools, two-person hammocks, and screened-in porches. They also provide complimentary use of wicker picnic basket, dishes, tablecloth and napkins: bring your own romance.
Get back to golfing in the a.m. at Pinawa Golf Club. Meandering along the Winnipeg River and Pinawa Channel, this locale carved out of the Canadian Shield is the course that Mother Nature built. You’ll be amazed at the wildlife viewing, with deer, fox and beavers, maybe even a wolf if you’re lucky. While there are many varieties of birds to watch, seeing an actual birdie on any of these 18 holes might be a rare occurrence. But you’ll have fun trying.
Tall Timber Lodge overlooking Lake Lac du Bonnet is your next home away from home. Deluxe cabins are steeped in rustic charm, offering coziness complete with Jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Amenities on-site include heated swimming pool, laundry facilities, movie rentals, and grocery store for stocking up on essentials halfway through your road trip.
Just 20 minutes from Lac du Bonnet is Granite Hills Golf Club, Manitoba’s newest course. Skirted by Lake Lac du Bonnet, it’s challenging but fair for all skill levels. The natural beauty of the granite rock outcroppings, elevated tees and lakeside fairways offer scenic views on each of the 18 holes. Don’t be surprised if the landscape incites hand holding while maneuvering around the hazards.
Your next stop on tour is situated in the trees at Grand Marais. Inn Among the Oaks is a rustic two-story country home built from cedar and pine. The quiet and secluded atmosphere offers above-ground swimming pool and indoor hot tub. Large windows feature a wonderfully wooded view. Nearby Grand Beach begs stretching out on a blanket and being lulled by the surf. Don’t miss gazing at the stars high above Lake Winnipeg.
Bordering Belair Provincial Forest you’ll encounter Grand Pines Golf Club. The natural rolling contour provides a variety of settings from open meadows to large stands of birch and pines. Complete your weeklong adventure at Getaways Romantic Retreat near Beausejour. The ambience of their private riverside cabins will put you in the mood for love; be it the dimmed lights, soft music, rose petals on the king bed, or European chocolates on the pillows. It might be the Jacuzzi tub or steam shower that you find irresistible.
But likely it will be the company of your special friend that captures your heart, making your Hot Tubs & Hazards golf tour a sexy success.

Weekend Golfing for Two
For a weekend golfing getaway, find fun and frolic on the fairways in Western Manitoba. The region is home to great golf and a fine selection of accommodations. A host of bed-and-breakfasts provide home base between chasing birdies and bogies, and picturesque prairie landscape will inspire intimate interludes amid spectacular sunsets.
Go west young lovers, to Minnedosa, for an overnight stay at Laws Way Bed & Breakfast. Built by the local lumber yard owner in 1912, Laws Way is a step back in time showcasing the finest materials of the day. Oak flooring, panelling and molding, leaded window, and large rooms create a spacious and inviting environment, and the perfect display for the host’s collection of art, sculpture and crafts. Nostalgic and romantic!
In the morning, drive to the edge of Riding Mountain National Park to Clear Lake Golf Course. Another step back in time, Clear Lake dates back to 1923 when large swaths of land were cleared to stop the spread of insect plagues. In 1928, the area was chosen for the site of a golf course and construction began. Relief camp workers during the Great Depression supplied labour for the back nine, and the course opened in 1934 with green fees of fifty cents. Today, while the fees are higher, the log clubhous, designated a heritage building, looks much the same as when it first opened and remains a monument to its history.
After another cozy night at Laws Way, get ready to play Minnedosa Golf & Country Club. Located in one of the most beautiful valleys in Manitoba, this course provides a true test of skill while providing genuine enjoyment. Carved out of the valley, it offers elevation changes of nearly 37-metres and breathtaking views from many of the elevated tees. It truly lives up to the name given to it by the Town of Minnedosa: ‘Manitoba’s Valley Paradise’.
