Master Angler 50th Anniversary

2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the Manitoba Master Angler Awards Program which has been recognizing the achievements of anglers since 1960. To commemorate this milestone, a special pin will be awarded to each angler who registers a qualifying trophy fish with the program in 2010.

It's the oldest master angler program in North America, 50 years and going strong. Last year, more than 10 000 trophy fish from 30 qualifying species were caught and recorded - and almost 90% of those were released! Here are a few:

My dad and I have fished many areas of Canada, dating back to the early 1970s. In or around 1981, my dad had been researching the northern part of Manitoba for fishing. I was 14 years old, and always looked forward to my two weeks a year fishing with my father.

This is where my memory fails me regarding location. I know we had been about 30 minutes south of Thompson, and stayed in a small campsite across the street from a lodge (that may have also been a motel) that had been run by the nicest lodge owner we have ever met.
