WHY MANITOBA?

Brandon - Manitoba's Wheat City

Wheat City Brandon is Manitoba's second-largest city. With a population of around 43,000 people, it's big enough to explore and keep busy, yet small enough so that visitors never feel lost. Brandon hosts many national and international events - from hockey and curling to livestock and agriculture fairs, there's always something going on in the Wheat City.

Why Manitoba?s Wheat City?
Brandon's rich agricultural heritage lead to it being called the "Wheat City". The city (the second-largest in Manitoba) is the province?s hub for much of the surrounding farming community.

So - what do you want to do?

Sports: The Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League are local favourites. This major junior hockey team has seen many of the game's future stars wear a Wheat Kings jersey before making it to the NHL.

Camping Arts and Culture: Brandon University's School of Music puts on student shows regularly - visitors can also take in a play, or catch a movie at the local cinema. Brandon is also home to the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba and many museums: the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, the RCA Museum, and the Canadian Artillery Museum - winner of the 2008 Tourism Industry Association of Canada award for Innovator of the Year. These museums offer visitors the chance to learn about Canada's military forces.

Food: Brandon offers a mix of fast, family and fine dining. Whether diners are in the mood for pizza or prime rib, palate-pleasers are abundant. Assiniboine Community College is home to the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts - visitors can stop by the Grey Owl Dining Room to sample food created by the province's next wave of top chefs.

Nightlife: Like Winnipeg, there are many nightclubs and pubs in Brandon that offer live music on a regular basis. Nightclubs offer visitors a chance to dance the night away.

Food Fun Family Fun: The city's many fairs and exhibitions make Brandon a great place to bring the family. The Keystone Centre hosts a wide variety of events: hockey, concerts, agricultural fairs, rodeos and more. An hour's drive south brings visitors to the lush greenery of the International Peace Garden at the Canada-United States border. Kids will love the Westman Reptile Garden, only 15 minutes outside of Brandon.
