Music Feeds the Soul
These summer music festivals demonstrate the power music has to bring people together.
Kelwood, Manitoba hosts the 8th annual Harvest Sun Music Festival, August 16-18. This grass roots prairie music festival is dedicated to showcasing Canadian musicians and supporting the local agricultural community, by partnering with Farmers with Disabilities and the Farm and Rural Stress Line to create awareness of their causes through music and the arts. In addition to a stacked line-up of performers including Cara Luft, Sons of York and Fred Penner, the festival features an onsite beer garden and farmers’ market offering everything from organic produce to naturally-raised prairie beef, jewelry, preserves and so much more.
Celebrate music, art and nature at the Matlock Festival, August 23-25. Featuring a diversity of musicians, including people with disabilities, young performers, seniors, gay, bi and transgendered as well as bands from various ethnic backgrounds, the festival offers performances as well as interactive workshops and other fun activities. Enjoy the range of musical offerings – bluegrass, reggae, folk and more – and take part in the workshops on birding, aromatherapy or children’s poetry. Camp onsite (unserviced) for only $5 and don’t forget your bathing suit, as the festival site is a short distance from Matlock Beach.
