Close encounters of the feathered and furry kind
There is no better way to spend a summer day than with a visit to the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Home to nearly 200 species and more than 2,000 furry, feathered and downright fabulous animals, the Zoo is a great place for exploration and family fun!
For a limited time only, the Assiniboine Park Zoo is home to a group of African black-footed penguins. HUB Horizon Insurance Penguin Cove allows visitors to have a unique, up close experience with the animals and learn about the plight of penguins in the wild and the conservation efforts taking place to preserve their future existence. Also new this summer, visitors can hop among the kangaroos (and emus) at the Zoo’s newest permanent, seasonal exhibit – Australian Walkabout. The large outdoor enclosure holds up to 14 female red kangaroos plus their young as well as four emus. Visitors can actually enter the enclosure and move about among the animals!
During your visit, don’t forget to say ‘hello’ to Hudson the polar bear. Weighing nearly 450 pounds, Hudson is a jovial and active polar bear cub who can often be found gallivanting around his enclosure, and delighting Zoo guests with his hilarious antics. He loves being the center of attention! Hudson is the first polar bear to make his temporary home at the International Polar Bear Conservation Centre and the first known resident of the Journey to Churchill Arctic and northern species exhibit opening in summer 2014 at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open daily from 9 am – 6 pm.
