For those looking for a camping experience with the comforts of home, stay at one of Riding Mountain Park’s new wood and canvas-framed camping structures, called oTENTiks. These permanent structures can sleep up to six, and have a deck with propane BBQ, firepit and woodstove. All you need to bring is bedding, food, cooking utensils and a sense of adventure.
The Wasagaming Campground is located right in the Riding Mountain townsite and is a 10 to 20 minute walk to the main beach at Clear Lake and a great base for exploring the rest of the park. There is also camping at Lake Audy, which offers an impressive view of the setting sun and proximity to the resident bison herd. Enjoy the remote and intimate campgrounds at Whirlpool Lake and Deep Lake, and Moon Lake has accessible sites for visitors with mobility impairments. For those seeking a little more wild camping adventure, there are 19 backcountry sites throughout the park that you can access by hiking, biking, horseback riding or wagon. You can also stay in the park’s yurt – a circular wood frame structure wrapped in canvas or reserve a stay at Cairn’s Cabin, a wilderness cabin located 14km down Ochre River Trail.
Whiteshell Provincial Park is a wilderness enthusiast’s dream. The rugged terrain of the Canadian Shield and the crisp waters of the park’s lakes and rivers offer a stunning backdrop to your campsite. There are 11 campgrounds in the park offering a range of settings and activities. The campground at Betula Lake is a short distance from the Bannock Point Petroforms, stones laid out centuries ago by First Nations people in the shapes of turtles, snakes and geometric designs. The campground at Big Whiteshell Lake is near the dock and boat launch, making it easy to fish for walleye, northern pike and small mouth bass. The campground at Caddy Lake is a great place for paddlers, as the lake’s canoe routes take you through tunnels constructed for the railroad. Falcon Lake is one of the province’s most popular campsites, with easy access to the beach and the amenities of the townsite, including golf, tennis, mini golf and a riding stable.
